Frequently Asked Questions
What is counselling ?
The main aim of counselling is to support the development of self-awareness within individuals so that they are able to make decisions and changes which will improve their quality of life.
How long does it take?
We are all different and the length of your counselling will reflect your individual needs, it may be any time from 6 weeks to over a year. I work both short and long term. Counselling is most effective when client and counsellor meet on a regular basis in order to establish the therapeutic relationship. So, initially I contract with you to work for 6 sessions and we then review how your counselling is working for you and plan future sessions together. Regular reviews are part of the counselling process which help to ensure that you are getting the maximum benefit from your sessions with me.
When can I see you ?
I can usually arrange to see you within a week of you contacting me. I offer a wide range of appointment times including some evening and Saturday sessions. Standard weekly sessions last 1 hour, extended and fortnightly sessions are also available. Please contact me for more details. If you are in crisis you may prefer to have two sessions or extended sessions to begin with. I aim to provide a flexible service which meets your point of need.
Do you see couples ?
Yes I work with couples, including same sex couples, to help both partners explore relationship issues and areas where they may feel stuck trying to resolve their difficulties alone.
How much does it cost ?
I offer a range of counselling services:
- 1 hour counselling session for individuals costs £35
- 1 hour counselling session for couples costs £45
- Supervision costs £40 per hour
Extended sessions are available at a pro-rata cost.
I offer a counselling concessionary student rate of £30 per hour for individuals on a full/part-time programme of study if sessions on weekday
I can discuss your needs and my charges in more detail with you when you contact me.
What other counselling services do you offer - for example telephone/ e-mail support?
My range of counselling services includes both telephone and e-mail support for existing 1>1 clients, many people find that this provides an added benefit - for example in times of crisis or when clients are unwell or working away.
